Summary:

Clarke & Smith Manufacturing Co. Ltd.
Melbourne Works, Wallington, Surrey.

Clarke & Smith Manufacturing Co. Ltd. was a British electronics company founded in 1946 by two former army colleagues, Major John Clarke and Alec Smith.

The company was a significant player in the British electronics industry for over 50 years. The company's products were known for their high quality and reliability, and Clarke & Smith was a pioneer in the development of stereophonic sound and portable video equipment.

They specialised in high-quality, rugged sound equipment for schools and factories from 1950 until the late 1970s.
They manufactured radios, amplifiers, tape Recorders, record players, and later television receivers. Most products were designed so they could drive several loudspeakers in different classrooms. All models are in stout wooden cases.

Founded: 1946
Closed: 1998
Production: 1946 - 1998
History:

They purchased Vortexion in 1973 and manufactured Vortexion products and continued to manufacture audio and video equipment throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

However, the company faced increasing competition from Japanese and Korean manufacturers.
Pioneer Corporation acquired Clarke & Smith Manufacturing Co. Ltd. in 1998. The acquisition was part of Pioneer's strategy to expand its presence in the European market. Clarke & Smith entered receivership in 1998.

This manufacturer was suggested by Wolfgang Scheida.
