Rees Mace Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was a British radio manufacturer founded in 1924. They initially specialized in compact portable sets but later expanded into AC power sets. They also operated a branch in France at 46, Rue Pierre Carron, Paris in 1929.

The company exported radios to the USA and was liquidated in 1949. Pye acquired the company's assets in 1950 and reformed it as Rees Mace Marine, focusing on marine radio equipment.

Formation and Early Years:

Rees Mace Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was registered as a private company on February 19th, 1924, specializing in the manufacture of wireless apparatus, telegraphic and telephonic apparatus. The company's first directors were L. B Pell and M. R. Cahill. [1]

Initial Focus on Compact Portable Sets:

Initially, the company focused on compact portable sets, producing five models by 1928. [2]

Expansion into AC Power Sets:

The company later expanded into the production of AC power sets. In September 1931, they showcased the Transportable Four A.C. model at the Olympia Radio Exhibition. This sophisticated portable receiver featured a four-valve circuit, a moving-coil loudspeaker, and ganged-tuned circuits. [3]

Exports to the USA:

The company exported radios to the USA, with the Cameo EL80 (110 V) being an example. This model was sold by John Wanamaker department stores in New York.

Liquidation and Acquisition by Pye:

Rees-Mace Manufacturing Co. Ltd. was liquidated in 1949. [4]
Pye acquired the company's assets in 1950 and reformed it as Rees Mace Marine, focusing on marine radio equipment. [5]

Pye Marine Limited:

Rees Mace Marine produced Admiralty Type Marine communications equipment used in the British Navy.[6]
Due to the vast increase in marine radio and electronic business, the company name was changed to Pye Marine Limited in late 1954. [7]
