History:

The exact circumstances of the founding of Precise Development Corp. are unknown, other than the June 12, 1951 date of incorporation.  What is known is that a key person in the period between around 1952-1962 was Melville Byron (1920-1974).  Mr. Byron was a talented engineer who served first as Chief Engineer, then as Vice President, and ultimately as President of Precise.  He is crediting as being the designer of many of the Precise products.  He lost control of and left the company around 1962 when it was acquired by Designatronics, Inc.

Eugene Silber (1886 - ?) also was a key player at least in the 1958-1959 time period.  At that time he was Chairman of the Board of Precise and, along with his son Albert (VP of Precise), owned 75,000 shares.  The remaining 55,000 shares were owned by Byron.  There is some speculation that Eugene Silber may have been the initial financier of Precise.   The involvement of the Silbers ended in 1959 when their shares were sold to a securities dealer (R. A. Holman & Co., Inc.) and then transfered to Byron.

The 1958-1958 activities associated with R. A. Holman & Co., Inc. were instigated due to the poor financial condition of Precise at this time.  Holman was retained as the underwriter for a stock sale of of 60,000 shares of Precise for $5.00 per share.  There were irregularities in the actions by Holman in this effort that eventually resulting in them losing their securities license.

Precise Development Corp.  initially was a manufacturer of test equipment.   Products started to appear in advertisements in trade publication in early 1952.  The initial ads referenced the address as their "export department", and in fact, many of the actual models in RMorg were submitted by overseas members.

A  1954 catalog offer noted that Precise also was selling HiFi equipment, although there are no known verified models from this period.   All known advertisements for HiFi equipment (amplifiers and tuners) occurred in 1958 and 1959.

Precise Development Corp. was acquired by Designatronics, Inc. around 1962.  The test equipment product line was updated and branded as "Green Line", although many of the older products continued to be offered.  The last known advertisements for Precise products occurred in late 1966, and it is questionable if any products were made after around 1967.

It should be noted that the 76 and 78 East Second St. addresses are simply two different sides of the same building, and "Precise Electronics" is used interchangeably with the longer name that mentions Designatronics.  Designatronics later moved to New Hyde Park, NY, but it is doubtful that this address had any association with Precise models.
