Abbreviation: cei
Products: Model types
Summary:

Communications Electronics Inc. was founded in 1960 by Ralph E. Grimm and a number of former Vitro Electronics employees and started production of surveillance receivers. In 1967, CEI has been taken over by Watkins Johnson. Finally in 1973, the CEI branch of Watkins Johnson moved it's production facilities from Rockville to Gaithersburg, MD.

Founded: 1960
Closed: 1967
Production: 1960 - 1967
History:
A number of former Vitro Electronics employees around Ralph E. Grimm founded Communications Electronics Inc. 1960. They started production of the 901 surveillance receiver in a quite small production plant in 4908 Hampden Lane, Bethesda, MD. In 1964 they had to move to a bigger production plant located at 6006 Executive Boulevard, Rockville, MD. Three years later, CEI had to expand it's production facilities again. That was when the company has been taken over by Wakins Johnson Comp., originally based in Palo Alto, CA. From 1969, the former CEI sets carried the WJ logo on their front panel. Another new production plant has been contructed and the CEI branch of Watkins Johnson moved to 700 Quince Orchard Road, Gaithersburg, MD.
