OK, I got the chassis out after dealing with some very rusty set screws on the knobs.  Now I have another question for the experts.  What are the two parts in the yellow boxes below?

One of them has a big crack in it.  I can't tell if these are supposed to be capacitors or resistors.  They have no visible markings.  Also, looking at the schematic below, can ayone tell me what the item circled in red is supposed to be?  I'm not familiar with this notation.

Thanks!

Hello Michele.

On board you find the solutions.

A= 150 pF (μμF) 63 to100V DC

B= 5000pF [4700]  (μμF)  630V DC

C= a Trimmer or Potentiometer to adjust for minimum Hum on Speaker Sound-

(in german words: "Entbrummer" )

O.K. ?

Hans

Danke sehr, Herr Knoll, for the clear and elegant explanation of these parts of the VE-301W.  It is now clear what is going on here.
