Hi:

Is there a substitute for the magic eye tube EM34.

The EM 34 sells for 79 dollars, which is expensive to me.

Thanks

M Khan

The Russian 6e5s works well enough in my Pye JH/E as a replacement.

It's a bit more sensitive, so you might add a series resistor 2M2 Ohm and parallel resistor 1M ohm on the grid to reduce it. I didn't on my Pye.

The wiring of the base (see article) is slightly different. Either re-wire base or use an octal plug and socket wired as an adaptor.

Most magic Eyes can be "somehow" replaced by just 3 Russian / Chinese types

See article

All Octal end view types by Russian 6e5s, 6e5G etc

All side Noval bar types by Russian or Chinese 6FG6, 6E3P 6E2

All Noval fan/ Angel wing by Russian or Chinese 6e1p, 6BR5

Wiring changes or adaptors may be needed!

Damage can result by direct replacement!

Hi,

I've been using the UM4 - a 12 volt tube with a small filament transformer. It has the same general shape and appearence to the EM34, and is also dual sensitivity. I managed to get some at a bargain price. The base has to be rewired. - See the tubes in  the RmOrg tube collection.
