Tampere is a city in Pirkanmaa, southern Finland.
Tampere is an important railroad hub in Finland and there are direct railroad connections to, for example, Helsinki, Turku and Turku Harbour, Oulu, Jyväskylä, and Pori. The Tampere railway station is located in the city center. There are also frequent bus connections to destinations around Finland.

Tampere is served by Tampere–Pirkkala Airport, located in neighboring municipality Pirkkala some 13 km (8 mi) southwest of the city.

The public transport network within Tampere currently consists exclusively of a bus network.

Vapriikki is housed in what used to be the engineering works of Tampella Ltd. on the banks of the Tammerkoski Rapids

Description With a picturesque location beside the Tammerkoski rapids, Vapriikki is a museum centre that offers things to see and do for the whole family. It hosts about a dozen exhibitions, with varied themes, including history, technology, and natural sciences. Vapriikki is also home to the Natural History Museum of Tampere, the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame, the Shoe Museum, the Doll Museum, the Postal Museum and the Tampere Mineral Museum.

Rupriikki Media Museum

The exhibition Messages from Pirkanmaa focuses on the development of mass communication, including newspapers, radio, television, and even digital games.
Networked Humanity is a story of networking that is becoming more and more total every day.
The Gaming Man is an exhibition on the long history of games and playing. Rupriikki’s new exhibition approaches media phenomena through devices that visitors can try out or play with.

Innovations

Innovations is an exhibition and research project focusing on the past and present of local technical know-how.
Tampere has good reason to be proud of its technological prowess. Many well-known technical devices first entered use here, and this city has also been quick to apply technologies developed elsewhere for its own needs.
New additions were made to the exhibition in spring 2012. Displayed is the history of the metal industry and engineering works, modern IT research, and medical technology.
The exhibition also sheds light on the roots of Nokia Corporation and its current significance in the Tampere region. What do you think is the most important innovation?

Treasures of the Toy Box
The Time to Play exhibition, on the history of toys and play, presents toys from Finland and abroad, companions of children in Finland both past and present.
This exhibition displays about 500 toys.

History of life and biological diversity in the Tampere region.
The Natural History Museum of Tampere offers varied experiences focused on the natural environment. This exhibition presents the history of life and biological diversity in the Tampere region through our many senses, and it displays topical natural phenomena.

Mineral Museum

Tampere Mineral Museum has on display the fascinating world of rocks and minerals.
The 7000 objects of the exhibition have been collected from 70 countries.

The Tammerkoski Rapids and the Story of Tampere

The Tammerkoski Rapids exhibition tells the story of how a small village grew into an industrial city.
The exhibition presents lives of Tampere residents from different eras via short glimpses and cartoons. A much-loved miniature model of Tampere in 1890 gives the visitors an idea of the town’s development over time.
Interesting historic items related to Tampere are also on display, including a mayor’s uniform from the 1860s, the decorative glass windows of the Palander building, the town’s first set of traffic lights, and Juice Leskinen's Finland guitar.

Tampere 1918

The Tampere 1918 exhibition depicts the events that took place in Tampere in the spring of 1918.
The Finnish Civil War between the Red and the White Guards was a short, but traumatic and sorrowful period in Finnish history.

Vapriikissa viihtyvät kaikenikäiset museovieraat. Voit tutustua kerralla yli kymmeneen näyttelyyn. Historiaa, luonnontieteitä ja tekniikkaa - niistä on hyvä museokeskus tehty!

Vapriikki on monipuolinen museokeskus Tammerkosken rannalla ja se tarjoaa nähtävää ja koettavaa koko perheelle. Ohjelmistossa on kerrallaan aina yli kymmenen näyttelyä, joiden teemat vaihtelevat historiasta tekniikkaan ja luonnontieteisiin. Vapriikista löytyvät myös Tampereen luonnontieteellinen museo, Tampereen kivimuseo, Postimuseo, Suomen Jääkiekkomuseo, Kenkämuseo ja Nukkemuseo.

Museokeskus Vapriikki

Museokeskus Vapriikki on Tampereella Tammerkosken rannassa sijaitseva museokeskus, joka avattiin yleisölle syksyllä 1996. Vapriikin näyttelyt käsittelevät Tampereen ja Pirkanmaan historiaa, luonnontieteitä, teollisuutta ja tekniikkaa sekä vieraita kulttuureita.

Vapriikki on saanut nimensä ruotsinkielisestä tehdasta tarkoittavasta fabrik-sanasta[4]. Museokeskus toimii Tampellan tehtaan entisessä verstaassa, jonka vanhimmat osat rakennettiin 1880-luvulla. Vapriikin noin 14 000 neliömetrin pinta-alasta puolet on varattu näyttelyille ja yleisötiloille. Loput tiloista on tarkoitettu keskuksen muulle toiminnalle, kuten tutkimukselle ja arkeologiselle työskentelylle.

Museot

Vapriikin yhteydessä sijaitsevat Kenkämuseo, Kivimuseo, Nukkemuseo, Pirkanmaan maakuntamuseo, Postimuseo, Suomen Jääkiekkomuseo ja Tampereen luonnontieteellinen museo. Aiemmin Vapriikissa toimi myös Tampereen nykytaiteen museo.

Lokakuussa 2015 Vapriikin museotarjonta laajenee entisestään, kun Finlaysonin tehdasalueella aiemmin toiminut Mediamuseo Rupriikki avautuu yleisölle. Loppiaisena 2017 Vapriikissa avataan myös pelimuseo.

Näyttelyt

Vapriikin pysyviä näyttelyitä ovat Aika leikkiä – Lelulaatikon aarteita, Innovaatiot, Tammerkoski ja kosken kaupunki sekä sisällissotaa käsittelevä Tampere 1918. Näiden lisäksi museokeskuksessa järjestetään vaihtuvia näyttelyitä, joista osa on kansainvälisiä. Keskuksessa on aina esillä yli kymmenen näyttelyä.
