The Acopian Solar Radio 257 P-E was built from April 1957, being the first solar driven radio. With it's measurements of 3 x 3 x .75 inch it is very small too. See also company history. It uses a Germanium Diode and one Transistor. Acopian calls the ferrite antenna a "Loopstick High-Q", Omni-directional Ferrit-loopstick
