The converter contains an RF amplifier (58), mixer (57) and local oscillator (56) and mixes the incoming shortwave frequencies down to a fixed broadcast band frequency (575 kHz) for reception on any broadcast band receiver.

The converter contains a mains transformer to provide the filament supply and the B+ is supplied by the broadcast receiver.
