  • from Radiomuseum.org
  • Model: Sky Princess - Ever Ready Co. GB Ltd.; London
  • Shape
  • Portable set > 8 inch (also usable without mains)
  • Dimensions (WHD)
  • 9 x 3.5 x 10 inch / 229 x 89 x 254 mm
  • Notes
  • Black and cream leatherette covered wood case. Released July 1956 price £10 10s 0d excluded  purchase tax. The BEREC Calypso is the Export version. Uses a B141 Combo battery pack for perhaps 70 to 80 hrs use.

The Sky Baby (Export is  BEREC Ballerina) is the same chassis in a small valise style case, later replaced by Sky Countess (BEREC Wizard)

The Sky Casket (Export is BEREC Harlequin) is a very similar chassis, the main difference is no IF AGC.

The 1958 Sky Baronet (BEREC Matador) is essentially a revised version of similar style case and tuning scale but a PCB with minor circuit changes replaces the point to point wiring on metal chassis.

Specification (from Ever Ready Service Manual)

    • MW 545 to 1560 kHz
    • LW 170 to 290 kHz
    • IF Sensitivity 50mW out: Better than 150uV (via grid V1) 30% modulation
    • IF Bandwidth -6dB: Between 5 kHz and 8 kHz
    • Consumption: LT 1,5V 125 mA, HT 90V 10.2 mA, DL96 Ia = 5.3mA
    • Ferrite Rod aerial. (The lid only covers the knobs and has no operational function).
    • RF and IF AGC
    • Centre power off on waveband switch.

Appears to use a similar design of loudspeaker to Sky Casket (compare photo of speaker), i.e. the voice coil and magnet are inverted in position, they are inside the front of the speaker cone to reduce depth allowing the B141 battery pack behind the speaker and reduced cabinet depth.

  • Price in first year of sale
