  • The Philco model 38-40 farm radio series uses a 6-tube 2-band chassis powered by either a 6-volt storage battery or 115 VAC. A vibrator is used to generate B+ voltage when operating on 6 VDC. A plug switch is used to select between the two power sources.

    There are four individual models in the series with different cabinet styles. Model 38-40T (1937-38) is a table radio. Model 38-40K (1937) is a console with a vertical control panel flush with the front of the cabinet, and a non-inclined speaker grill. Model 38-40F (1937) is another console with a slightly recessed control panel and an inclined sounding board. Model 38-40XF (1938) is a third console design with a sloping control panel.
