The Gramophone Company; London Berliner and other businessmen create the Gramophone Company, Ltd. of London. In December 1900 the Gramophone Company was for a few years renamed the Gramophone & Typewriter Ltd. The company acquired parts from Johnson, and assembled them in London. The company would eventually share all music and artist licensing rights with the Victor Talking Machine Company, and the two would operate side by side to control the vast majority of the world's music markets. In 1931, the Gramophone Company would merge with the Columbia Graphophone Company, Ltd., of London, to become EMI. |
