Kodama was founded in 1946 as Koseki Shoji Co, Ltd. In 1952 the name was changed to Kodama Metal Industry Co. Ltd., and in 1955 the current name was adopted. They specialized in molding of plastics after that.

Kodama has produced a number of cassette players / radios for Capitol Records between 1968 and 1970.
