Kajaani Oy was founded 9.3.1907 as pulp and paper manufacturer. The company expanded in the forest industry, and in 1970 electornics production was started. First products were measuring and control devices for pulp industry. Other products were cash registers (EDACOM brand) and taxi metere (Semel brand). Kajaani had subsidaries in Germany (Kajaani GmbH) and USA (Kajaani Inc automation) In mid - 1970:'s finnish broadcast company (YLE) started building a new broadcast house. 100 control rooms needed new desks, and because of the nordic requirements, no such consoles were available. Yle asked Kajaani to produce these desks. Desing personnel moved from YLE studio laboratory to Kajaani, and the first desk (named 10EA- series) was created. After the new YLE broadcast house was finished, several 10EA- series consoles were installed to the regional studios around the country in 1980's. A few desks were sold to Soviet-Union. Another product line, 34EA series outdoor broadcast consoles, were introduced in the early 1980's. in 1987, the audio product line was sold to Jutel Oy in Oulu. Jutel continued to produce 34 EA series and supported the 10EA series to 1990´s Other branches of Kajaani electronics merged 1993 to Valmet, today part of Metso Automation. |
