Mobira Oy, later Nokia-Mobira Oy, was founded by Nokia electronics and Salora as a joint venture to produce mobile phones. First models were ARP system, national Finnish mobile phones, soon to be followed by NMT phones. Mobira brand name disappeared after 1989, to become Nokia mobile phones.

History:

Nokia electronics (founded 1960) and Salora merged their mobile radio production into one company, Mobira Oy in 1979 Nokia Electronics had started manufacturing VHF radiophones since 1964, and Salora during the same period.

  • 1982 First NMT phone
  • 1983 State owned Televa sold it's radiotelephone production to Mobira
  • 1984 Nokia bought Salora
  • 1986 Name changed to Nokia-Mobira
  • 1989 name changed to Nokia mobile phones

Later products manufactured under Nokia brand name, including all GSM phones.

Base stations production and develpment is located in Oulu, Northern Finland. (Nokia Cellular systems, later Nokia-Siemens-Networks, today Nokia networks).
