Founded by Jack Tramiel as a repair shop for typewriters in New Yorrk, he later produced mechanical calculators, electronic and scientific calculators, and finally electronic calculators.

Jack Tramiel began his career as a typewriter repairer in New York.

He later moved to Toronto (Canada) where he began assembling typewriters and importing them.

With the arrival of cheap typewriters from Japan, to avoid having to stop the activity, he turned to the construction of mechanical calculators, but suffered the same fate for the arrival always from Japan of economic mechanical calculators.

He then began to build electronic calculators, also scientific and programmable, until Texas Instruments put far lower price calculators onto the market.

It was then that, with the acquisition of major semiconductor manufacturers and integrated circuits, with the acquisition of adequate engineering, and the transfer of the registered office to the Bahamas, finally began the adventure in the field of computers, brilliantly continued until the failure in 1994, due to mistakes in the management of the company.

Currently several companies are owners of parts of the brand and continue to produce in addition to computers, including hi-tech like Smartphone.
