Name: BPL-India; Bangalore    (IND)
Abbreviation: bpl
Products: Model types
Summary:

BPL-India; Bangalore, India: BPL-India, with headquarters at 32 Church Street, Bangalore, was a major producer of radio and television sets during the 1980s and 1990s.

Founded: 1963
History:

In 1963, TPG Nambiar signed a collaboration agreement with Anthony Sheridan of British Physical Laboratories (Instruments) Ltd. UK, and started producing hermetically sealed panel meters for the army in India under the name BPL Ltd. During the 1980s the company was rebranded as BPL-India and became very active in the production of radio and television receivers as well as other consumer goods.

Later, on entry into the export market, the 'India' in the name was dropped to become BPL Group. Sales reached a peak in 2002, but by 2004 an unsuccessful joint venture with Sanyo and competition from foreign manufacturers contributed to the demise of the company when Sanyo collapsed in 2009. The company continued to make healthcare products, and in 2013 BPL Medical Technologies was spun off as a separate enterprise. The present management has announced plans to revive the production of consumer goods.

This manufacturer was suggested by Bruce Taylor.
