Ampex (GB) Ltd. was the first subsidiary Company started by the Ampex Corporation outside of the USA.

Ampex were manufacturers of professional and studio audio and video magnetic tape recorders and tape and television transmission equipment. Later they manufactured mass storage computer peripherals.

History:

The Ampex UK subsiduory in Reading where they had four buildings also became the Headquarters for Ampex's European, African and Middle Eastern operations.

The first product assembled in their Reading UK factory in August 1959 was the FR-100 Instrumentation Recorder.
