History:

In June 1931 the Dutch company Heberholds Ltd., of Utrecht, Holland, proposed to set up a factory in Spencer Street, Melbourne to manufacture batteries and telephone radio broadcasting products.[1]

In October 1931 they registered Heberholds Dry Batteries (Aust.) Pty. Ltd., with Casper Herberhold, William Francis Winter and William Parry as Directors.[2]

In 1935 they converted to a Public Company, New Heberholds (Australasia) Ltd.[3]

With the increase in production a larger premises was required and in  1935 a modern factory of approximately 40,000 square feet was purchased for £10,000 in Hoddle Street, Abbotsford Road.

During the years, 1936-37, the company had more business offered to it than the present plant could produce and many orders wore declined. At the time the estimated requirement for dry batteries In Australia was £350,000 per annum. From 1935 in addition to dry batteries the company commenced the manufacture of all types of condensers. The companyalso had a cardboard box and printing plant.

In September 1936 they changed the company name to Impex Limited.[4]

To raise funds they issued a prospectus to raise funds for expansion in September 1937. [5]

The company ran into financial difficulties and was liquidated in February 1939. [6]
