In this project we collect the legacy of the Galician brothers Juan and José Portela Seijo pioneers of electronics and Spanish acoustics. During his long career spanning the years until the late 1980s, he patented many inventions, including the first steel wire tape recorder and the Organsound. That is a tubular speaker, with forms inspired by the organ of the Cathedral of Santiago. Juan Portela (1913-1989) conceived it as a result of the obsession he maintained throughout his life with the perfect sounds of music and nature.

The Organsound has unusual acoustic characteristics, the original model can still be heard in the Yago Portela store, son of Juan Portela, in Santiago de Compostela, who describes it as follows: «The Organsound is a loudspeaker that achieves total separation of the sounds, both at an extremely low volume and very high, generating an enveloping and orchestral feeling in which no harmonics are lost or noises are introduced. Every tube has a dimension that corresponds to a frequency range. It is as if each of these frequencies found a suitable way to expand. »

From Espadaysantacruz Studio we have made a redesign of the original piece. The original is marked by the stylistic tendencies of the Galician decorative furniture of the sixties; we have sought more pure and universal forms; while respecting the proportions, we have simplified the lines, colors and materials to become a timeless piece, without losing the naturalness of their sounds.

Through this new design we try to keep alive the historical memory of technology, acts as a tribute to inventors who were never part of the official discourse of our history.
