The company was started as an import-export, wholesale company around 1910 by German immigrant Hans Hecht (1881-1965) who arrived in Australia in 1900. He had various business interests and in 1926 added radio products to his inventory. - 1926 - Trolite radio front panels [1]
- 1929 February – Double Tested Condensers, unknown manufacturer, possibly imported.[2]
- 1929 August - Blue Spot Loudspeakers, pickups and chassis imported from the UK. [3]
- 1929 October – Chanex Condensers & Chanex variable Resistances, unknown manufacturer, possibly imported, rebadged as Chanex. [4]
- 1930 December – Tentative arrangements made to establish a battery factory in Melbourne with the British Grosvenor battery Company.[5]
- 1932 Jubilee, chrome plated, loudspeakers, unknown manufacturer. [6]
The Chanex Trademark, initially for boot laces, was registered in December 1930. [7] He started Ducon Condenser Pty. Ltd. in 1932 to supply capacitors into the Australian radio manufacturing market and it quickly grew to dominate the Australian component market. H. Hecht & Co. traded until 1991.[8]
In 1970 the H. & L. Hecht Trust was established to give something back to the community for the help he and his wife, Letitia had received. It provides support for community development projects. One project was the establishment of a Low Vision Aids Clinic at Kooyong, so that people with low vision had access to the devices and equipment that could assist them.[9]
