The company began as a joint-venture between Philips and LG Electronics in 2001 to concentrate business in the aging CRT market. The company was the world's largest manufacturer of CRT displays.

They were legally established in the Netherlands, but had operational headquarters in Hong Kong.

History:

When the joint-venture was established, the television set business of Philips had a turnover of USD 3 billion, ran 12 CRT productions sites with 24,000 workers and reached a profit of USD 157 million.[1]

In May 2003 LG.Philips Displays announced the closure of their European production facilities in Newport and Southport, UK.[1]

The company went bankrupt in 2006 and restarted under the same name with investments of third parties.[1]

On 1 April 2007, the company changed its name to LP Displays International, and continued operations with the UltraSlim and SuperSlim product lines.[1]

As of 2012, the company is in voluntary liquidation.[2]
