History:

In late March 1932, the Joyce-Cridland Company of Dayton, Ohio, a maker of railroad and hydraulic equipment, bought the radio manufacturing assets of the Van Horne Tube Company. Van Horne had in the 1930-1931 period made one model of radio, a short wave converter, and a couple of models of test equipment in Franklin, Ohio (about 10 miles from Dayton).

Joyce-Cridland formed the Franklin Radio Corporation as a subsidiary to manufacture radios and test equipment in Dayton, Ohio. While on paper over 30 different models of radios and several types of test equipment were offered, many were simply different cabinet versions sharing the same chassis.

Carl Linxweiler, a Daytonian with an electrical engineering degree from Ohio State, became president of Franklin in mid 1933. However, the business was a bust for Joyce-Cridland, and radio manufacture ceased in or about October 1934.
