Name: Balkite - see Fansteel    (USA)
alternative name:
First National
Abbreviation: balkite-9
Products: Model types
Summary:

Balkite Products, Chicago, Illinois;
A subsidiary of Pfanstiehl, also Fansteel.
Balkite was the brand name for rectifiers, chargers, and battery eliminators.

Sales of "Balkite" rectifiers, chargers, and battery eliminators made $73,263 in 1923 and $4,068,503 in 1926. Till 1929 the business went down when the "all electric" (mains operated) sets conquered the market.

Founded: 1916
History:
In 1917 Pfanstiehl Lab. changed the name to Fansteel, which did not sound so German (it was WW 1!).
Balkite must not be confused with Balkeit Radio, a subsidiary of Fansteel, established in 1929.
Nevertheless Fansteel sold Radios under the name Balkite, which was the brand name for rectifiers etc...
There is a number of mutually connected but not identical companies and brands:
- Pfanstiehl
- Fansteel
- Balkite
- Balkeit

In the literature as well as in advertisements there is no unambiguous allocation and use of a.m. names. To avoid doublets and erroneous combinations we are concentrating all products at Fansteel, since it is the longest lasting of all names.

This manufacturer was suggested by Konrad Birkner † 12.08.2014.
