For your consideration:

I frequently refer people to RM.org. Often they are not a member and want to join but are unwilling to pay a fee. So I explain if the can contribute and help out then the fee is waved.

Suggestion – Place a link or button or icon and label it “Free Membership”. Have that link go to the pages that explain how to be a member.

I think if it appears when a viewer is not logged in or some where obvious in the margins of all pages, RM.org may grow a little bit faster.  Perhaps it can appear when they click on an image or schematic as a non member.

Dear Paul
Good suggestion! It shows also that you do care for RMorg.

But:
We are growing already too fast ... Since that thread at ARF Radiomuseum.org: Facts and Fiction from September 2010, we get slightly more new members from the USA than from Germany. That is September 38/20, October 24/22, November 32/26 and December 33/31. This is wonderful and outstanding - but my problem is that we have not the human resources to cope with that many new members - in total: September 126, October 111, November 144, December 154 ... The highest figure ever was before 123 (May 2010) and 122 (march 2006).

We are in the situation that we have good language admins for Italy, the third large group - with Alessandro De Poi and his brother, for Spanish with Miguel Bravo and for French with Vincent de Franco. Naturally also for German where Wolfgang Bauer and Martin Renz do a great job. They get far the most.

German is followed by English - where we have nobody who attends this IMAP - but me ...
That means that I have to work like a slave for more than 80 hours a week. Most of these eMails come directly to me and I can't delegate to some language admins! I'm a very fast writer (10 fingers blind) but should not work so intensively and for so long each day (at my age ...). There are days where I have to answer more than 50 eMails - after clearing things or doing something ...

Having more new members would also mean that the model admins, picture admins and schematic admins would have much more work for helping newcomers for getting quality work.

What we would need first would be at least 3 or better 4 English speaking good members who would do some voluntary work. Two of them could share the IMAP and one or two would do some model admin work for US models ...

To do a real good job and to keep good quality it would need about 1 % helpers to really cover everything. Today we are 3773 members which selected German as their language, 2238 English, 587 Italian, 474 French and 437 Spanish - in total 7509 members who have at least logged in as a member. Alone for the USA it is now 945 members ...

Wise but not fair would be to stop getting new members until we have the necessary staff!

Voluntary helpers must have done all sorts of activity to know how to help - or as model admin would have to know quite a lot about US radios - we would finance the necessary books. We would have some promising members, but all of them are working and have family duties etc.

On top of that comes that I have to deal with a lot of guests. I hired a person who helps me to prepare photos we receive and to upload them for me. It is nice to help others and I like to do it - but it is too much, far too much!
