ECL 11 AND EL 11 TUBES

Hi every one

i just have a question(which might sound dumb)

i have a GRAETZ -51W radio ,it usese an EL11  as an ouput tube,,so, can i use ECL11 instead.

if not ,can anyone explain why please..

You'd need a base adaptor (less nasty than re-wiring the base as they are not pin compatible). I'd have been surprised if ECL11 is cheaper / more available.

The Octal EL33 (= EL3NG) and P8 base EL3N (same order of connections as Y8) are essentially the EL11. The EL11 is a Y8 base. Often the base on dead tube and good tube can be loosened by soaking in warm water (the glue is often wood powder or flour mixed with varnish). Or you can buy or make an adaptor.

I'd leave the radio unchanged and either swap base on tube or use an adaptor. There are other tubes that will work on same g1 and g2 bias.
