From a new member I just received the text below.

"For spanish people who can speak english, it is a shock when we discover that german language exist.
I mean that usually we think the only country speaking his own language and no more is Spain. Of course, everybody think in Spain that it must be quite right to think that a more limited language like german (only a little more than 100 millions people speaking german in the world) probably will use english in forums, websites...
And one day we notice that it is not true. Some small worlds like old radios world is dominated by german people, and of course they write in pure german.
English has an advantage for latins. At least 45% of english words are from latin, so our learning curve is faster. When you read paviment (pavimento, acera), table (tabla, mesa), confidence (confidencia, confianza), promise (promesa), humidity (humedad), calm (calma), silence (silencio), idea (idea), terrible (terrible), horrible (horrible)..., and thousands of words like these you are at home. The richness of having in most cases both anglo-saxon and latin words (synonyms) is the first power key of this language. The second, of course, is that USA speak english.
Not so lucky with german. German is absolutely far away for latin countries, and a forum in german is..... Perhaps instead of fighting against romans....."
We have to accept that this opinion is true - and I think even more common in greater communities like America, China or India.
This is the reason that I introduced Spanish, French and Italian instead of "only" German and English. We have also the option of "other languages" ...
It strikes me since having organized the languages to be quite separate in the forum and well selectable to get this opinion. I really have to battle very much with these last three languages, believe me.
It depends alone on the activity in a specific language if it is dominating or not
Maybe that English will be dominizing one day. It is on you only to achieve this by showing activity (without smoke). We still lack English speaking members who are active by enhancing models or bringing in new models for the English speaking countries. That would attract more colleagues of your language ...

Hello all
A very interesting subject! As the Spanish gentleman said, there are many similar words in English and Spanish; the main reason is that English 'borrowed' many words from other languages, many being French.
In Britain we also have many placenames of Scandinavian (Viking) placenames and dialect words.
It is rather sad that many Europeans write and speak better English than many English people - I did not realist how bad this was until I started using the Internet - and that we English have such a poor grasp of other languages.
I really must try to document some of my radios here! Most of the things would need severe processing because of the file sizes, though.

Sé de su interés en desarrollar otros idiomas en el forum. El problema que la mayoría de los miembros que participan con frecuencia e interés dominan el Alemán. Si uno inicia un forum en otro idioma la participación es ocasional o muy reducida.
Resultaría interesante que todos los miembros intentáramos un idioma único, probablemente inglés. Los traductores disponibles en internet facilitan ésta tarea (Bablefish, freetranslation, etc).
Espero que éste diálogo estimule a los miembros que dominan idioma alemán a participar en los forum en inglés.
