This is a link to some of the largest department stores catalogs in Canada from the 1920's to the 1970's.

Emphasis is on Canadian makes although there are also American radios and phonograph and some European ones. From thaht page you can also browse entire catalogs and find other equipement such as reel to reel tape recorder, cassettes tape recorders and so on. Of course, prices are given in Canadian dollars!

Alain,

That is an excellent link!  I've been looking for information on Rogers radios which are sadly left out of the listings of this site.  Do you have any insight as to where I might look to find sales brochures for the Majestics of the early 1930s?

Cheers!

Robin

Hi,

I am not a specialist, by no means. There seems to be a link beteen Deforest-Crosley and Rogers (some will spell it Rodgers). Rogers majestic would build radios for DeForest-Crosley.

Here is an exemple on that page http://www.deforestradio.com/radios.shtml

Robin,

I must add, Ted Rogers Jr passed away December 2nd 2008. The company is flourishing accross Canada, to the exception of the province of Quebec.

Dear Alain
You seem to be a new member - who is quite active - which is seldom. I don't know if you are aware that you can enter new manufacturers/brands and that you also can enter data to the existing manufacturers/brands.

Please click "Manufacturer/Brand" on the entry page (search page). Then either enter Rogers for "Firm name" or select Canada.

On the company page you then either use the link "Upload picture with text" for pictures (never single models) or "Suggest change" if you would like to enlarge or correct the existing company/brand text.

You can also introduce a text with or without integrated pictures or pictures in the attachment to the forum by using the link "Text/Forum".

At last you can check which models have no picture or no schematic ;-)
But you probably know that you may also add model pictures if there are already on a model.

I wish you good success.
By the way: If you click the flag for French you can also get everything except individual text in French. You might for instance add French Text to Canadian dcompanies/brands via the "Text/Forum" link.
You will see that we miss a translator from English to French. The new entry page is still in English there ... Are you able to help?

Ernst,

Your site is really well organized and comprehensive. Thank you for inviting me to add text and descriptions regarding Canadian radio companies. I will do my best. However I don't want to add information that would not be accurate, therefore giving wrong information to othe users. I guess this is why many of us are "shy".  However I can certainly translate some texts from English to French.

Alain

Dear Alain
Thank you very much for your kind offer to translate some texts. I thought you would start with something like help texts or so in the board "FAQ about the radio pages".

My big problem is that RMorg grew so much and so fast. This is very good for RMorg but not for me: I have too much to do, for instance correspondence with active members who have questions, the organisation etc. We are now 5372 members (who have logged in) but only rather few members with initiative. Sometimes I try starting something but as soon as I have to turn to other things most often such "starting members" just drop the matter ... I can not and should not be in every place ...

On the other hand: I can understand that you offer some help but that you would not dare pick something up for translation, not knowing if it is the right way to do it.

I always look for members who are willing to do something - even if it is only an hour a week. Normally they do it the right way. If not, then the admins or other members care for that. I think most members help here with pleasure. Initiative is an other thing ... I don't know how to invite to be initiative. I think for instance that many collectors have something like printed information on models and makers, catalogs etc. and it would be easy to add new models or encance others. This is done by too few members ... We need more "enterpreneurs" within RMorg ...

Translations:
First I think this would be worth while to be translated:
* Basic Help
You could write this in French in YOUR name. It has not to be word by word but just as you think it is good. Just go to this forum - and you can start. Please use the * in the title so that the article comes first. Unlike other boards this one is organized in alphabetical order instead of date.

If you like it - or perhaps somebody else will offer his/her help and tell here what he/she will "take" - there are other themes worthwhile to be brought in French - either by translation or by starting a topic.

** Error after filling in the request form for membership
This is not so easy because there are integrated pctures. One always also has to be aware that one has to create other links to texts in the respective language.

A translater has also to be careful to use his/her own screen shots in the correct language and for the new site - which is a bit different than this one: Create new model. But this one has already been translated into French. I just show it to demonstrate that we have first to look up if something has already been done. Unfortunately quite some essential articles have not even been translated into English. But there are enough in that board which could be picked out for translation from English into French (or other featured language).

Alain,

I am so sorry to hear of Canada's loss.  He, like his father, did wonderful things for the country.
