Very early communication systems...

Hallo Anthony,
after we had several complaints that very early communications equipment could not be registered in th radiomuseum.org database, because we had only a timespan of 1910 - 2000 (as I remember), Mr. Erb made the decision to change this to give the pssibility to enter the earliest imaginable electric communications equipment. So all these members who own a Leyden jar from the 18th century are invited to make a now model proposal.
On the other side, radio sets made after 2000 are not really historic, but interest in these stuff might arise later. Just try to locate some informations about the really early wireless telephone systems...
Just in case, a superhet covering the FM broadcast band dating from late mediaval years will be refused by the admins for further research, even as stuff like this is for sale at ebay..
Kind regards Martin Boesch

History: 1600 - 2010

Dear Colleagues,
By one definition, "History: is the chronicle of events leading from the past to the present and even into the future". I think it was very brave of the museum to include the distant past and the present for the selection of radio equipment.
It does raise a few questions: Are cellular telephones with FM and RDS radio receivers ? - I would say not, but on the other hand there has to be some small corner of the museum where we can record what happened to radio receivers in the 21st century. (even if they became a part of something else-like the virtual radio on a handset.) I suppose we should also mention software projects like DREAM (a DRM receiver using the PC sound card) in our annals
It seems to me that we are on the threshold of new and interesting changes - new digital receiver modes, software defined receivers and so on. (not to mention the free stereo radios given away by steakhouses when you order a meal!). All this and a very quiet sun thrown in for good measure.
The challenge will be to find radios with the aeshetic appeal of the old wooden and bakelite cabinets.
