Hi, All:

I bought a grab bag of used tubes on ebay and among them was this strange vacuum tube.  Anyone know what it is?  Kind of looks like some sort of thermostat to me.  Not that I have any use for it, but curiosity is killing me.

Thanks!

Hi Michael,

this tube seems to be an thermo time relais. There must be a heater filament and a switch function .

Best regards

Wolfram

These kind of tubes have been used for instance in Tek scopes and other devices. Anode supply only got switched on after a specific delay time, allowing filaments to heat up and tubes reach operating temperature.

They are called "thermal time delay relays".

Kind regards
Mark

Hi, Wolfram and Mark:

Thank you!  That explanation fits with what I see inside the envelope.  I very much appreciate you both taking the trouble to translate my English and reply.  Radio Museum is turning out to be a great place for me to learn new things!  I am going to retire soon.  I  hope to amuse myself restoring antique electronics.  I'm sure I will be here a lot looking for advice.

Kindest regards

Mike
