| Description | From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: The Wee Georgie Wood Railway is a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge tourist tramway running from Tullah to near the Melba Line on the West Coast of Tasmania. It is named after its narrow gauge steam engine, which was named the Wee Georgie Wood due to its small size. The original name varied between the "Farrell Tramway" and the "North Mount Farrell Tramway". It is based on part of the former North Mount Farrell Tramway and operates as a heritage/ tourist attraction for the people of Tullah and surrounding areas and visitors to the West Coast. The original tramway was the only means of transport for the mine and its people from 1902 until roads were built to the Tullah area in 1961. Vintage RomeoThe rebuilt Lake Margaret Tramway 4wPM locomotive (Nicola Romeo 770, of 1925) is provided as an alternative locomotive for at least a year whilst a new boiler is built for the Wee Georgie Wood. The Vintage Romeo locomotive is leased from the collections of the West Coast Heritage Centre, Zeehan where the locomotive had resided as a static display since about 1965. The Vintage Romeo is reported to have finished its final years of service life at Lake Margaret Tramway fitted with a Holden engine, but ¡t arrived at the museum without an engine. A rebuilt Dodge 6-cylinder side-valve engine had recently been installed. |
