Description

The Railway Museum

On the 24th of July 1918 the Parliament passed a draft bill from the Ministry of Development on the building of a railway line between Villablino and Ponferrada to transport the coal from the coal mining areas of the river Sil.

From this moment on the train would become an essential element in the economic and industrial development of the whole area.

The old railway also had a passenger line which operated until 1980 and it was the last railway in Spain that introduced the steam locomotive.

Nowadays the Museo keeps all those memories inside.

The building of the old Station shows a number of pieces (plans, graphic material, bibliography and so on) that allow the visitors to have a deep knowledge of the important role that the railway and the mining industry developed in the town of Ponferrada during the 20th century.
