時計館宝物館わが国の時刻制度は、今をさかのぼること１３４０年の昔、天智天皇の御代に大津の都に漏刻（ろうこく）を設置され時間を知らされた御事績に始まります。漏刻とは水時計のことであり、日本書紀には、初めて漏刻を用い鐘鼓を鳴らして時を知らされた、と記録され、時の記念日の由来ともなりました。昭和３８年、近江神宮時計博物館は、わが国最初の時計博物館として、日本の時刻制度発祥の地に設けられました。平成２２年４月、近江神宮御鎮座７０年を期して改装し、「時計館宝物館」として新装開館しました。１階の時計館には高松宮家（有栖川宮家伝来）から御下賜されたわが国最古級の懐中時計や、各種の和時計をはじめ古今東西の時計、２階の宝物館には曾我蕭白「楼閣山水図屏風」（重要文化財 展示品は複製）や河井寛次郎の陶器、刺繍で織った百人一首織かるたなど、御鎮座以来各界の方々から奉納いただいた各種の品々を展示しています |
