| Description | Open air museum Buildings from the pre-industrial agrarian community make up the most prominent part of the museum’s collection. The first section in the open air museum shows farm buildings from the six Valdres local authorities. There are a hundred buildings and facilities inside the museum fence. The log storehouse from Uppigård Høve is one of the oldest surviving wooden buildings in Valdres (built before 1350) and was set up at the museum between 1946 and 1947. The museum’s collections number about 20,000 objects. The House of Folk Music contains a workshop for making and repairing langeleik (Norwegian zither), hardingfeler (folk fiddle with double set of strings, the lower acting as a drone) and strings. It also houses the country’s oldest folk music archive with over 11,000 individual recordings of song and music. Oppland Archive has a branch here containing over 500 private archives. Exhibitions Permanent and temporary exhibitions can be found in the reception building and the old administration building. The folk costume exhibition is the museum’s largest. |
