Founded in 1951, the Technical Museum of Slovenia (TMS) aims to to research, collect and exhibit Slovenia's technical heritage, as well as to protect the historically important technical buildings, installations and machines. Its collections (historically) elaborate on various topics such as cars, bicycles and other vehicles; the sawing, woodworking, textile and milling industries; printing and bookmaking; telecommunications services; and so on.

Aside from its core premises and collections, the museum also manages various satellites, including the Bogenšperk Castle,
the Pantz Forester's Gravity Cableway,
the Museum of Post and Telecommunications,
and the Soteska Depot of Vehicles.
In 2017 the Open Depot exhibition of the three national museums opened in the Park of Military History Pivka.

Tehniški muzej Slovenije (TMS) je slovenski muzej, namenjen zbiranju, zaščiti in posredovanju slovenske tehniške dediščine.

kjer so na nekaj več kot 6000 m² razstavnih površin na ogled stalne zbirke s področij kmetijstva, prometa, gozdarstva, lesarstva, lovstva, ribištva, tekstila, tiskarstva in elektrotehnike.

Poleg tega sodita v sklop TMS še Muzej pošte in telekomunikacij v Polhovem Gradcu in Javni zavod Bogenšperk, ki na gradu Bogenšperk skrbi za stalno razstavo o Janezu Vajkardu Valvazorju. Za javnost je odprt tudi depo Soteska pri Straži na Dolenjskem, kjer je na ogled zbirka cestnih vozil.
