| Description | The Grand Rapids Public Museum is a living monument of artifacts, ideas and stories told through exhibitions, events and educational programming that examine and interpret our humanity and our environment.
With over 250,000 artifacts in collections, the Grand Rapids Public Museum is the second largest museum in the state of Michigan based on collection size. The collections span dozens of categories, from automobiles to zoology, from furniture to fossils, and beyond. While only a small percentage of the Museum’s holdings are on exhibit at any given time, the GRPM provides virtual access to give the public a more complete look at the scope and depth of the collections. There's a 2 story giant steam power engine (they use an electric motor to work it though) that they use to power the belt drives of the replica furniture building shop. Back in the late 1800's and a lot of the earlier1900's Grand Rapids was the USA capitol of furniture factories. There ara lots of special exhibits. |
