Description

Vatican Radio, founded in 1931, has exceeded 80 years of life. Thinking of the speed with which modern science and technology are developed, it is already a fine piece of history; indeed, it is more than two thirds of the entire history of the Radio from the time of its origins!

The technicians of Vatican Radio have always worked in economics, trying to use instruments up to the level of technical development, but also to make them "live" and keep them efficient for as long as possible. Therefore, they became fond of their instruments and kept many of them even after they had finished their "active life" in the reproduction of sound or in the transmission of programmes.

Thus was born a small but rich historical museum, currently located in the "Palazzina Marconi", i.e. in the first historical seat of Vatican Radio, inside the Vatican Gardens. It collects hundreds of pieces, which allow us to retrace decades of history of radio technology as it was experienced at Vatican Radio: microphones, recorders, receivers, etc.., of various types. There is also a large collection of photographs and films of the time that allow you to review even equipment and systems that by nature and size can not find a place in a small museum.

A visit guided by a competent and passionate technician is irreplaceable... but also a virtual visit can give an initial idea of the long and rich technical history of Vatican Radio.
