A TK35 taperecorder was brought in. Play back was OK, erasing existing records was OK but recording was very weak and distorted. Conclusion: lack of bias. The bias was traceable all the way from the -of course working- oscillator (erasing was OK!) down to the solder joint where the record/play back head wires were attached. The DC-resistance of the record/play back head seemed OK. Just soldering again this (good looking!) joint solved the problem. (It took me ages to realise that this joint was the only possible candidate!) The owner told it never made any usefull recordings from the day he bought it and now wanted to have complete use of it. (a bit late after more than 40 years)
