  • Notes
  • A 2 x 20 watt stereo hi-fi amplifier, the NAD 3020 Series 20 was the first in a series of 3020 Amplifiers which continued in production until 1993. With a high-voltage, high-current output stage enabling it to deliver twice its rated power to handle musical transients, and a 'soft clipping' circuit which gently limits the waveform voltage when the amplifier is driven beyond its rated power. It also has a sophisticated low noise near distortion free 6 transistor MM phono pre-amplifier.

With RCA input sockets for Phono (MM), Tuner and Aux, input/output RCA sockets and DIN socket for Tape, and a Soft Clipping switch (On/Off). Sockets for Pre-amp out and Normal-in connected with removable U shaped metal jumpers, and sockets for Lab-in (an alternative to the Normal-in socket with wideband frequency response). Connectors for one pair of loudspeakers and two AC outlets (not all models).

Rotary controls for Bass, Treble, Balance and Volume, push buttons for Power, input selection (Aux, Tuner, Phono, Tape), Audio Muting and Loudness. Power On pilot light and and 5 LED Power Meter indicators. Jack for headphones. Rack mount handles are an optional extra.

    Designed by Björn-Erik Edvardsen.

    Specification
Continuous Average Power Output into 8Ω
(Min. RMS power per channel, 20Hz - 20kHz, both channels driven
with no more than the rated distortion) ......:  > 20 watts
    Rated Distortion 20Hz - 20kHz .................:  < 0.02%
    Clipping Headroom at 8Ω .........................:  +1.5dB
    Clipping Power at 8Ω / 4Ω / 2Ω ................:  28W (8Ω), 37W (4Ω), 42W (2Ω)
    Dynamic Headroom at 8Ω ........................:  +2.9dB
    Dynamic Power (Max. short term) .............:  39W (8Ω), 58W (4Ω), 72W (2Ω)
    Damping Factor at 50Hz, 8Ω ....................:  > 55
    Frequency Response Range .....................:  10Hz - 70kHz
    Frequency Response 20-20kHz Lab Input ..:  ±0.5dB
    Input Sensitivity .......................................:  2.5mV (MM), 150mV (line)

    Versions/Power Requirements
    117/220/240 V AC 50/60Hz internally switchable

Note: The schematic mentions for the complementary power output stage the transistors 2N3055 and 2N2955. According to the data book Transistoren-Taschen-Tabelle, Franzis 1977, 2N2955 is a low power pnp-Ge-type. So 2N2955 is a misprint here, it should be a MJ2955 (pnp-Si, 150W, 15A).

    Made in Taiwan
