  • Notes
  • This is a 50ms audio delay amplifier for home use in conjunction with an existing mono audio system. The input is a 16 Ohm transducer that takes input from the speaker terminals of an existing mono system. The transducer drives a coiled aluminum hose to obtain the 50ms delay. A crystal microphone picks up the delayed audio signal from the aluminum hose delay line to drive the built-in amplifier and speaker with a volume control. A casual hearing test driving the transducer from a 50 Ohm audio generator suggests an overall bandwidth of 4kHz. The aluminum hose delay line is carefully acoustically impedance matched to achieve the 50ms delay without reflections. When listening exclusively to the Xophonic, there is no noticeable reverberation or echo; the spacial effect requires the simultaneous operation of the existing mono speaker system with the Xophonic.
