  • The Companion is a mobile receiver - but on line power - in a special case for use with headphones. It was made in two versions, one for 110 volts and the other for 220 volts.

    Panel Description:
From left to right - the top of the two vacuum tubes, three posts with screw clamp labeled "Broad," "Sharp," "Local." In the center a scaled dial, from "0" to "100" around the top and "ICA AC COMPANION" in the bottom half, and in the upper right - phone jacks and under that, a unlabeled SPST switch and at the bottom another rheostat with the panel labeled "Sensitivity" but the knob is labeled "Volume Control".

Inside the lid is printed on the velvet, a round medallion "INSULINE CORP OF AMERICA" surround the large initials ICA and under that, "COMPANION." This last part is on the panel also in this form, "ICA AC COMPANION" as the lower part of the "0 to 100" scale.

Charles Lewis has sent us some photos and he explaines that the tubes (Silvertone -227-22X and -227-20X) still show a paper tag glued to the side of the tube reading: "GUARANTEE EXPIRES plus a handwritten date 7-16-32 - plus SEARS, ROEBUCK AND Co. F5866 REV. 10-26-31. The ear phones for his set are "American Bell" manufactured by Wayland Radio Mfg Co. in Wayland New York. The Sensitivity or Volume control is actually a regeneration control.
