  • Anotaciones
  • Second model in the "Twin" range.
A lever on a spring loaded slide switch locks the radio in the "battery" mode when the mains plug is parked in a holder. This was to suit a UK 5A two pin and some smaller 5A 3 pin prior to the 3 rectangular pin system adopted in the late 1950s. The chassis is also connected directly to one wire of the mains cable when in "mains" mode (default) and power switch on. Today the set is best operated via an external isolation transformer or on batteries.
There is an external aerial socket isolated by a Silver Mica capacitor.

This Twin 50 uses a combined battery. Presumed to be B127 (size & rating and claimed by Trader 963),  If the radio has two plugs, then it's the Carnival Twin R656 or some other Twin as  R&TS states these  use separate batteries (Presume B129 and AD39 as claimed by trader 963 for Twin 50)

A puzzling aspect is the battery type. The B129 + AD39 use the 3 pin and larger 2 pin HT & LT connector (same as B126 and AD38) and that is what is on my Twin 50, with dabs of red marker on the solder, as on the internal solder joints of the set, suggesting a factory fitting.

But the B127 "combo" pack uses a 8 way + key socket  with keyed 4  pin + dummy key pin connector of "type W"

B129 + AD30 side by side is about 286 x 57 x 96mm max

B127 280 x 95 x 55 mm approx

The Public may have been suspicious of "balanced" combi packs and preferred the separate HT & LT?
