Below you find a part of the radio collection Abie Alexander - including other related items. Hello! A Telefunken D799 WK trop radio at home, growing up in India, changed my life. This was before the Internet and even television had not reached my town. The Telefunken radio enabled me to stay connected internationally by listening to shortwave stations around the world like, the BBC, Voice of America, Deutsche Welle, Radio Australia, Radio Netherlands, Radio Sweden, Radio Austria, Swiss radio International, and many others. I became a proficient DXer and shortwave listener and was able to pull in stations on medium and long wave from Europe. I transitioned later to become a amateur radio operator with the call-sign VU2ABE. After moving to the United States, I now operate as AB1F. Sadly, the Telefunken radio became out of order but I still have the chassis and the innards. The wooden cabinet was eaten by boring insects even before the radio finally failed. I am now in the process of collecting old Telefunken radios and equipment with the intention of renewing my love for valve radios. I have just started with a Telefunken Allegro 5183 W Stereo radio and a Telefunken S200B turntable. More as I make progress in this hobby. |
