Message to administrators - the tube 9GV8 should mention XLS85 as an equivalent, not with heater different.

Source: RCA data sheet; the tube displayed also shows both references printed on the glass.

Thank you!

Hello Christian,

An European tube type XLS85 does not exist.
The letter S is not included in the European tube designation system.

The next closest European type to the 9GV8 is the XCL85, which has the same heater current 0.6 A, but a slightly different heater voltage of 8.6 V instead of the 9.5 V of the 9GV8.

The RCA specifications are incorrect.

Best Regards,
Jacob

Hello Jacob,

My typo, sorry! Of course I meant XCL85.

In spite of slight variations in voltage specs / tolerances (according to manufacturers too), the two tubes XCL85 and 9GV8 are given equivalent by several manufacturers.

See attached pictures: RCA, Miniwatt, Sylvania

You can also see the many pictures of the tubes and the boxes on the radiomuseum site (e.g. the Dumont box with the XCL85)

Thank you!

Hello Christian,

due to the slightly different heater voltage the 9GV8 and XCL85 are now linked as
“Normally replaceable-slightly different” to each other.
