Can somebody advise me what type of aerial I need for the above.
I've only just purchased the radio and am a complete novice.
Where can I buy such an aerial with the correct size plug?

It's likely an 1/8" split pin wander plug, I make them out of a bent over piece of tinned solid copper wire in a piece of cut off felt pen body. The aerial is just a random wire (any type, insulated). One along the top of the curtain rail will work. Or you can use a "brassed" steel wire core washing line. Or a CB home-base vertical with internal earth of base loading coil disconnected, though you'd want an adaptor at the radio end for 50 Ohms RF coax cable as the aerial socket impedance is maybe over 1000 Ohms.
Unless the radio has had the paper dielectric caps replaced with modern types, don't plug it in or some combination of the output valve, audio transformer, rectifier valve and mains transformer will fail.
