Hi All,
I have a tube. The sign says VATEG or VATE6 BUDAPEST 2Z. It looks like a detector diode. But maybe something else. The base is Noval. Pin 1 9 shorted, and between them and pin 5 it has the heater and maybe the cathode. Pin 2 3 shorted and connected to plate. Pin 4 N.C. Pin 7 6 also shorted and connected to plate. Pin 8 N.C. Does anybody have idea what it could be?

Probably a half wave mains rectifier, as it looks like 1/2 of an EZ82.The EY82 is double the size half wave to your example. It seems more likely than a signal diode.

Hi Michael,
Thank you for the answer. I done some measurements in meantime. It is not rectifier, even not signal diode. Vf 1V If 200mA looked ok for heating. But I could measure only 100 microamps plate current using 20V plate voltage. Also the plate is smaller than a rectifier should be. Can it be a noise diode? If yes how can I check it.

The DY8* series are about 1.25V @ 200mA. However they are all EHT rectifiers so are quite different construction and have a top cap for the anode.
Maybe a VHF detector or a low current HT rectifier. You could put a 470K load and compare the noise at 30V HT compared to the diode section of a DAF91 or DAF96 or similar detector.

At least the manufacturer is clear now. After some Googling I found the VATEG is the trademark of Magyar Adócsőgyár (Hungarian Transmitter Tube Manufacturer). I also found some tubes from them in:
tubedata.wernull.com/other/docs/PHBrans/PHBrans_Vademecum_RadioTubes_20th_1965.pdf
They was working from 1951? to 1963?. The company was created from the Hungarian Philips company, after it's socialization. Before Philips it was VATEA. So the tube is VATEG 2Z. I'm almost sure it is noise or saturated diode. I attached a picture which hopefully shows it's structure better.

To my opinion, the 2z is a Saturated Diode for use in AC/DC stabilizing circuits, like the Philips 3DA.
Looking close to the picture provided one can see above a spring holding the filament tight. In case the filament is broken, then the spring makes contact immediately with the member connected to the anode. This can be seen as a "fail safe" action in order to prevent damage to the circuitry involved.

Is it possible to create the manufacturer as well? I tried to do it using "Create new manufacturer" menu point, but it didn't allow me to check "Tube Manufacturer".
