First of all I'm a beginner to radio restoration. My question is on the capacitors packed inside the two metal containers 24 and 30. 24 says it has 4 capacitors inside but only has 3 leads exiting the container. 30 say it has two capacitors inside but has 3 leads exiting the container. On the schematic it shows 24, 4 (four) times but no values listed. 30 shows up twice but again no value. The values are different on all 6 capacitors so how do I know which one goes where? Am I missing something? One more question on polarity of the two electrolytics, 56 and 57. The schematic does not indicate polarity. My intuition says + for 56 goes to the choke 55. On 57, negative generally goes to ground. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

P.S. Am I the only one that doesn't like codes inside a circle rather than the actual value?

Dear James,

Please find attached a schedule of the values for the capacitors. For the 0.1, 0.13, 0.25 you can use one common value, ether 0.1 or 0.22uf 400V. This is not critical. For the 1uf (this is the right one of no.24) you can use 2.2 or 4.7 uf 180/220V All capacitors have a common ground, that's why they are conneted together and have not separate wires at the can. To be on the save side please check the voltages across the capacitors during operation. There is no voltage indicated in the diagram.

Good luck

Thank you Rolf,

I have that schedule so I know the values I just don't know where each value goes because on the schematic it simply says 24 (4 times) or 30 (2 times). If I use one value then that helps, except again there are only 3 wires exiting from the can and 4 capacitors.  I know they are all tied together and grounded in the can but each of the four capacitors must have a lead right? Can 30 has two capacitors a .25 and 1mfd but there are 3 leads exiting the can. So I'm still confused.

Thanks again for your help

Roff I found a link which cleared everything up. Turns out Philco and Ryder made the same mistake on the documentation and schematics. Can 24 has only 3 caps inside and can 30 has 3 NOT 2. So thought I would share this with you.

I was unsucessful in sending you the link or a Microsoft word document. If you do a search on google for Philco model 90 1-47 error it should come up.

Thanks again
