I am about to restore a somewhat neglected model but my first obstacle is getting the set out of its case. After removing the screws on the base, I find I cannot slide the chasis out of its case as the two speakers are in the way. Removing the speakers might be the obvious next step but their fixing screws are very inaccessible with the chassis still in place. Before I do this I would be interested to know if anyone has an easier way to get the set out of its box or if I am missing something here??!

Hello

Remove the strip of wood on the front. It will be screwed, not glued. You then can remove the chassis from the front, not as usual from the back.

Kind regards, Walter Haring

 Hallo Walter,

Thanks for the quick feedback! I have now removed the strip of wood at the front but the metal section on the opposite side at the front does not allow me to remove the chassis from the front. It may be glued on, I see no screws! I have since discovered that the speakers are much easier to remove than I thought at first because the difficult rear screws only hold metal 'clips' and the speakers may be quite easily removed by sliding them out of these clips.

NO - this does not work either - hmm! The 'balance' pot is in the way and the tuning dial glass is just too wide. The  tuning dial glass is too wide to pass out of the cabinet from the front as you suggest because there are 2 wooden pieces attached to the metal speaker grilles on the side. Almost looks like Philips glued the cabinet together around the radio and did not intend it to be removed by amateur technicians like me!!

Hi,

you need to remove the screws of the balance pot and the screws of the 5 knobs at the upper right (as seen front-side). They are mounted in the radio on a metal strip. The metal bar it self is glued in the radio and not removable without damage. When you did loosen the balance pot and 5 knobs, you need to remove the chassis in a diagonal way, because the loudspeakers are in the way. The loudspeakers can be removed after removing the chassis.

Pim.
