Hi,

Found this ronette microphone in a yard sale.

Can someone tell me wich type number it is?

Or where can I find the technical specifications?

is this a B-110 maybe?

Dear Frank,

it sure looks like a B-110. There should have been a type label around the mounting thread. Are there any screw holes to be seen?

The screws on the side of the housing, on the other hand, can you say if they are original or were added later?

What pickup element is inside?

Yours,

Nikolaus

Hi Nikolaus,

There are 2 holes on the side of the mounting bracket. It appear's to never had a label mounted.

As a am compairing the mike now with the b-110 it is safe to say it is a b-110.

There are 2 threaded screw holes on the side of the microphone with a screw mounted.

I supose these were added by the user.

How do I open the mike safely so I can have a look inside?

Hello Frank,

I have never opened one, but the brown ring around the white element (which houses the transducer) should be possible to be screwed off.

To give you an idea, you might want to look at the web site of Bert van Oortmarssen. He has pictures of many Ronette and similar mics online, including their insides.

Hi Nikolaus

You are right. You unscrew the microphone like a Bakelite telephone of the past. The beautiful site of Bert van Oortmarssen has confirmed this.

There are no markings on the inside of the microphone cell. But it's clearly a b110.

Do you know what the microphone connector is called? Is it still easy to order?

Frank

If it's the same connection as on my R-510, then you need a Switchraft 2501F (female) connector.

I ordered some not long ago at ca. 14,-€ a piece from musikerkabel.de

They would also be available from other sources, at wildly differing prices.

Mind you, the Ronettes are crystal mics, and require a high-Z input on yor Preamp. At least 1 Megohm is necessary, higher impedances yield a little deeper low-end. The sound is - by today's standards - bright and thin, and most types have an omnidirectional pick-up pattern.

Yours,

Nikolaus
