saba: Saba; Freiburg-Automatic 8, Curious modification

If you observe the Ebay auction 280025888701, you can see a very particular Freiburg 8 radio that was TERRIBLY modified.  Not only in the height of the cabinet and withdrawing the loudspeakers, also the height of the dial glass was reduced losing the LW band. 

What can justify a great and aberrant surgery of those characteristics?

If the Loudspeakers are missing, they might have been sold separately. Search for "SABA green cone" with the search engine of your choice and you will know why. Some people think they are High End and sell them for a very high price.

BTW: I'd prefer the original radio to those self-built speakers.
